Food Meat Plants, Fears Grow of Employee Sickness



In overcrowded meat plants, employee illness struck a high in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three of the largest meat plants in the U.S. - Tyson Foods, JBS USA, and Smithfield Foods - did not provide adequate protective gear to workers including face masks. In fact, these meat plants are reported to have continued working even after instructions from authorities to socially distance on March 9. There have been at least 3,300 instances of worker illness related to these three plants, and 17 deaths.
