Food security has proven to be one of the most pressing issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, rendering millions at the federal/international levels insecure - while exposing weaknesses within economic systems which engender low-income individuals the most vulnerable.
Feeding America is a leading national non-profit that has helped supply more than 46 million individuals with resources through food pantries, soup kitchens, and other agencies. The organization has adopted an active role during the COVID-19 pandemic, launching a new Response Fund in addition to building inventories of emergency food, among many other initiatives.
Rhode Island Food Bank has been taking on new state-wide initiatives in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. By expanding their network of member agencies to have a more far-reaching effect, in addition to distributing up to 39% more food monthly than normal, the organization is actively working to adjust to the pandemic on a day-by-day basis.
