The last month at Cook Children's Medical Center in Forth Worth, Texas, found itself populated by several notable and shocking instances of admitted children and infants from severe abuse. Two children died from child abuse injuries. While it is still unclear and immeasurable how such instances may situate themselves within the larger COVID-19 pandemic, several child welfare experts fear spikes in child abuse associated with stress and economic insecurity - similar to trends that characterized the nation's previous financial recession. Increased burden imposed by factors such as unemployment only serve to exacerbate stress and tensions that may have already existed.
