Indigenous Communities Isolation and Protection


In Ecuador, recent trends have arisen of indigenous groups and communities rushing back to indigenous territory in attempts to avoid the coronavirus. The subsequent actions then entailed protecting the community by disallowing travel in and out. It is imperative to protect the safety of the community occupying the Indigenous lands; as the effects of coronavirus would devastate patterns of life, particularly in the context of remote locations away from hospitals. Paralleling history, indigenous populations have long been devastated by epidemics such as flu, measles, and yellow fever.
