The quest to confront the pandemic and flatten the curve lends itself to technology companies amping up surveillance tactics labeled under public health. Techniques such as "facial surveillance", "lie-detectors tests", and "migration management" have all been implemented in various European nations as a means to regulate quarantine orders and collect data on population movement patterns. In the U.S., Google and Apple have crafted an intervention which enables stakeholders to collect information on which individuals may have had contact with someone testing positive for coronavirus. While all such tactics have been introduced to increase regulation of contact and movement in the context of a highly stressful situation, the increased collection and surveillance of biometric data serves to increase privacy and ethical concerns.
