Medicaid and COVID-19
Concerns have been raised regarding the potential future strains on Medicaid given the large rise in unemployment and the role of the program for millions of struggling Americans.
Many states have already experienced sharp rises in Medicaid applications and attention diverted toward the program. USA Today reports that Utah has experienced a 46% increase in Medicaid applications amidst the current pandemic situation.
While programs such as Medicaid are highly necessary in current times, extremely sharp increases in applications and enrollees will place financial strain on the program. Yet, turning to Medicaid seems like one of the only viable options for many recently unemployed.
