Melinda Gates, COVID and Women



Historically, infectious diseases and outbreaks disproportionately affect marginalized communities, and Covid-19 is no exception–targeting Black Americans at an increasingly disproportionate rate. However, across the globe, the “silent toll” lies in the negative long-term effects for women’s lives and livelihoods. Economists predict that jobs held by women are 1.8x more likely to be cut during this pandemic than jobs held by men.
